What Can Cause Constant Headache After A Installation Of Shunt?

My son recently had a vp shunt installed about 5 weeks ago and all was well. The past week he has been complaining of a constant headache. The headaches can be treated with tylenol or motrin and like clock work the headaches come back. We have had a ct scan done. Any ideas????

Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Constant headache in VP (Ventriculo Peritoneal) shunt patient is mostly due to
1. Obstruction in the shunt
2. Infection in the shunt.
So better to consult neurosurgeon and check for patency of the shunt.
Also send shunt fluid for microscopic examination to rule out infection.
He may need antibiotic and other supportive drugs.
Don't worry, he will be alright but consult neurosurgeon and discuss all these.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wishing good health to your son. Thanks.
