What Cause Dry Heaves After Stent Insertion?

My mother had a stent put in yesterday morning for an abdominal aortic aneurysm. My dad says she had an episode of dry heaves. She talked them into keeper her for a second night so she s still in the CVU. What s that all about? She was told the surgery went smoothly and everything looked great. They got in and out quickly and smoothly

Hello,

I understand your concern. Your mother made the right call when she asked to stay in hospital given the symptoms she is having. That said, nausea, vomiting and retching are fairly common side effects of stent insertion, the reason being an allergic reaction to either the drugs used for anesthesia or dyes used in the procedure.
Although this is most probably a temporary condition, it is very important that, while experiencing these symptoms she stays under strict medical observation.
