What Cause Sharp Pain And Swelling In Left Index Finger?

I have a problem with my left index finger, i have been to 2 different doctors and still have sharp pain and swollen on side. I have been doxy for infection which did nothing, they have cut into it but found no foreign objects, also shot into it with steroids still no change. It looks like an ingrown nail. I injured it about 8-9 months ago while in the field it was swillen, red and even had some yellow discharge in the beginning. I treated it with alcohol and antibiotic cream. When I thought it was getting better, it would get this hard thick scab almost nail like on top then it peels off and starts all over again...I m left handed and bump this thing all day everyday. Its very sensitive and it s a very sharp pain. Any ideas?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
hello,
i can understand your concern.
with out the picture of the nail its difficult to tell whether its an ingrown nail or not. but with the explanation you have given it appears to be the most appropriate one.
if its an ingrown nail, kindly soak the nail in warm water intermittently.
this would reduce the inflammation.
take an anti inflammatory drug like aceclofenac for five days.
the definite treatment of an ingrown nail would be partial wedge resection of the nail(a minor outpatient procedure where part of the nail is removed)
kindly consult a surgeon for the procedure.
this would heal the ingrown nail within a weeks of the procedure.
hope i have answered your queries.
feel free to ask further queries.
thanks for choosing HCM
