Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 51 y/o and have an active sex life with my husband. But lately have been having problems with labial irritation.....feels kind of like abrasions and sometimes the skin is so thin it bleeds a tiny bit and burns. Also have been problems with my perineum doing the same thing. It is definitely effecting our sex life. What can I do?
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Considering your age, the problems what you could be facing could be due to vaginal dryness, which occurs due to hormonal changes happening during menopause. Kindly take care to keep your genitals under good hygiene by washing the area well with mild antiseptic solution like Savlon twice daily. You can apply water-based moisturizer cream or lotion everyday at bedtime and use lubricants while having intercourse to prevent mucosal damage. In case you have abrasions and if the mucosa is bleeding, you need to apply Neomycin cream on the lesions and abstain from sexual activities till the lesions heal completely. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
