Hi. I had a general anesthetic for an ultrasound guided transperineal implantation of radio-iodine seeds two days ago. That evening when I resumed eating, I almost immediately experienced very severe pain in my chest on swallowing, and, indeed was unable to swallow, as even a teaspoonful of water or my own saliva was regurgitated. This pain became worse and was the most severe I have ever experienced. After a couple of hours it eased and is only a slight soreness on swallowing now. The expert staff at the hospital treated it with diligence, and, being chest pain, checked for heart problems ( ecg, cardiac enzyme blood tests etc. ). No result there. I felt it was esophageal pain/esophageal sphincter contraction, and as intubation was only in the trachea-caused by the G.A.? The guess by the staff was esophageal spasm caused by something in the G.A., but not sure. Would appreciate your advice. Many thanks. John Lannen. Pharmacist. 170cms/75k.
