What Caused The Broken Blood Vessel In My Left Wrist?
I was sitting tonight, watching our grandson play ball. I was doing nothing with my hands except taking a picture. I looked down and it appears I have a broken blood vessel in my left wrist. It is swollen, bruised, and hurts. Ice, wrapping it makes it hurt even more. A week or so ago, my finger did the same thing but it went away. I have recently started taking Restasis for my dry right eye. Any connection? What causes this and how do I treat it. I am 65 and just had a physical and in good health. Karen
Hello, The broken blood vessel is probably a ruptured vein. With increasing age the veins in our hands and feet become fragile and tend to rupture with the minutest of trauma. Its nothing to worry about. It is normal. Ice pack needs to be applied even if it causes some pain. There will be a bruise for a few days and then it would disappear. Do not worry if your not on any blood thinner medicines like Aspirin or Clopidogrel. If you are then you should see a Physician who can advice you whether to stop or continue the medicines. Take care, Dr Rishi, New Delhi, India.
