What Causes GI Symptoms With Fatigue And Reflux Like Sensations?
Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here I'm a 27 year old female. I have been experiencing GI issues for a little over a year. I am constantly fatigued. Could sleep 11 hours a night, every night. I have been treated with Nexium and Protonix, but still have been having episodes where I wake up around 4 am with insomnia due to reflux-like feelings. Not responding to PPIs. How would I know if this is hypochlorhydria?...
There can be various reasons for these symptoms as GERD, disorders of the liver, gall bladder, bile drainage system, pancreas, diaphragm or other systemic disorders. Needs clinical evaluation, ultrasound of abdomen and pelvis, upper GI endoscopy for further management guidelines.
There are two ways to know if there is hypochlorhydria as: 1. Heidelburg stomach acid test is precise, most accurate but much costly recording stomach pH. 2. Baking soda test can be taken at home if after drinking baking soda in the water, you do not burp for more than five minutes; indicates you have low stomach acid.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
