What Causes Gout And Decrease In BP Levels While On Pravastatin?

I have taken 40mgs of Pravastatin Sodium for about 8 to 10 years and have had numerous cases of gout attacks never had it before in my life. I pretty much gave up beer, shrimp, organ food and lost 15 lbs. I am now 72 a was on Allopurinol 100mgs for about two years no major change so I stop. I now am looking at reducing my Pravastatin because it does keep my blood pressure down but it can also can cause Gout. I think i ll reduce it to 20mgs and monitor my blood pressure make sure it stays in check and monitor my Gout. What do you think???????

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Pravastatin is one of the medications that helps with cholesterol. It does not affect your blood pressure so you would need to monitor your cholesterol levels.

There is one statin , atorvastatin, that was shown in a medical study to decrease uric acid levels. Uric acid is increased in gout so decreased uric acid maybe be helpful for you.

You can consider this option

I hope this helps
