What Causes A Fibroid In The Uterus Along With Heavy Vaginal Bleeding?
Hi doctor, My periods have been heavy with clots in the past few months. I start my period on a regular date every month, however my periods were prolonged and just 2 weeks back with continuous large clots, as a result I became severely anemic and was given blood transfusion of 2 units. I was diagnosed with a 5cm fibroid in the uterus. They have gave me a depo provera shot on 4th of May and bleeding has been light and controlled until today, again heavy bleeding with big blood clots and menstrual pelvic pains. I am scheduled for an op around 31st may. In the meantime please suggest what medicine I can take to stop the bleeding especially the large clots.

A 5 cm fibroid certainly needs surgical excision to cure it. Till the time being approach, following medicines will help to control the amount of bleed:
- Tranexemic acid or ethamsylate tablets
- Oral contraceptive pills on daily basis
- Ayurvedic supplements as Kerutin C
- Vitamin K analogues as injections which helps formation of clotting factors
Along with above, supplemental iron sucrose or oral ferrous ammonium citrate or others may be of immense benefit for controlling hemoglobin level.
