Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Good afternoon. My question is my husband has a red mark on his left upper arm (just under the bicep). I first noticed it three days ago. Thought it may have been a bug bite. Kept watching it and the mark is getting bigger. I don t see any blisters or even puncture wounds. The size has gone from a small red mark to a finger size quite red mark. I should mention that my husband is pretty much a full time patient. He cannot walk, he cannot talk very well (he has a trache) He cannot swallow. Fed thru a tube. His health is always a huge concern. Is this something to be alarmed about. I should mention that even from the first signs of this, he doe not have any pain. Thanks so much. Carol
As per my clinical experience, the growing red mark on arm with a patient in bed ridden condition, matters a lot for many possible reasons. Major concern is mostly platelet disorder with low functioning or low platelet counts which tend to clot the blood beneath subcutaneous area. In my clinic, after clinical assessment of the systems, I do recommend an evaluation of complete hemogram, platelet count as well as bleeding, clotting and activated partial thromboplastin time to get the root cause of issue.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
