What Causes A Large Dent At Back After Sebaceous Cyst Removal?
I am 67 years old - had a huge sebaceous cyst removed yesterday. Had the bandages changed by med care nurse today. Was shocked to see a large hole on my back. I am supposed to be travelling out of the country in 9 days. I am nervous as it is close to 14 hours flight. How long does it usually take to heal? Will the hole close by itself? Can it get infected due to any kind of pollution? Do you advise to have a bandage on it when travelling? I was told that showers/water would heal it faster. Is that right?
Dear , This is Dr. S. Tomar from healthcaremagic.com's medical team and I ll be your medical adviser for this question.
Healing can take from 10 to 15 days after cyst removal depending on your health conditions . If you are not diabetic then healing will be much faster . The basic care of any wound , surgical site depends on proper antiseptic cleaning , application of antibiotics and proper bandaging . In 9 days it will be much better . Don't worry about the hole , such holes gets healed well and can leave a shallow indentation in form of slight concavity after healing which should not be a matter of concern . You should get a proper bandage before you travel if healing is not accomplished till that time . After taking shower , it's very important to make the area dry and clean with antiseptics to prevent any complication . Moisture is best place for bacterial growth so be careful about it and keep affected area clean and dry and properly dressed. This is my initial response and discussion is open until you have any query or need further clarification. I wish you good health . sincerely, Dr. Shardendu Tomar
