What Causes A Painful Ulcer In The Stomach?

I have had an endoscopy done twice in the past year. One of the times was yesterday and i also had the colonoscopy yesterday. They found an ulcer in my stomach and it is painful. I have had lots of weight loss and no desire to eat because it hurts so bad. I already take 80 mgs of omeprazole everyday but this was all brought on by me taking bc powders consistantly for 25 years. And recently my husbands pharmacist told me about caratate and said it would probably help with my situation. What do you think

Brief Answer :
Antacids plus Antibiotics treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Hello, i have read carefully you concerns. I will give you some advices to help you with your problem.
It is well known that a prolonged use of NSAID ( Nonsteroidal Antiinflammatory Drugs ) as you did, is one of the most common cause of gastric ulcers.
The first step, in this case, is to stop using this class of drugs, and replace them with a more "friendly for te stomach", like Acetaminophen ( Paracetamol ) if you still need to use an analgesic.
The usage of Omeprazole, in most cases is very effective, because it helps decreasing the amount of acid that your stomach produces. So it helps with the symptoms like heartburn.
Also if your symptoms persists, you can try to add to your treatment another type of drug : H2 receptor antagonist. It helps also to decrease the Acid of the stomach.
If you have done a lab test for helicobacter pylori, and the results came postive, you should add to your treatment, a combination of Antibiotics, like clarithromycin and amoxicillin.
You should be careful with your diet too. Try to avoid spicey food, alchool, caffein, carbonated drinks. And try too eat food that are rich in fibers, planty of fruits and vegetable.

Please ask again if you have any further quetions.
Best Regards!
