Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes A Persistent Bruise And Knot On The Leg Post Injury?
About a month ago I fell and bruised my leg. There is still a bruise, a knot and my skin is not in that area. Should I be worried about the heat in my leg? People have told me that means there could be an infection although there is very little broken skin
If you have pain in the area or secretions coming out or any redness then very likely there is an infection.
If you have none of these but just the bruise and knot and little skin that is not closed yet then very likely the skin will close soon but having a visit with the doctor might be a good idea to make sure you do not have impaired healing. if you have diabetes or smoke or have any chronic conditions or take oral steroids the wound healing might be delayed and you might need to make sure you rule out these conditions.
I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
