What Causes A Red Patch On The Site Of Knee Replacment?

I had a complicated knee replacement operation 6 months and my knee does not feel great because of the torn ligaments situation. I now have a round red patch the size of a 50p on the side of the knee. the skin feels totally knumb and the specialist said this was normal, but should I worry about this patch which seems to be turning redder. many thanks Suzy
