What Causes A Sore Throat And Fever Despite Taking Medications?

I was diagnosed with Strep throat exactly 6 days ago by rapid strep test at a local quick care facility. I was started on Cefdinir twice daily for ten days, and was advised to take ibuprofen as needed. Two days later my pain and fever was so much more intense that I hadn t been able to swallow any liquids at all and wound up in the hospital. They treated me with an IV of fluids, Antibiotics, Steroids, and a small amount of pain medication combined. They also did a CBC to make sure everything else was fine. hours later I felt fantastic. I was advised to continue the Cefdinir and was also prescribed Prednisone and Tylenol with codeine. even after taking my medication as directed (and doing all of the salt water gargling possible) I am back to feeling the exact same and still getting fevered every morning around 4 AM. I would like to know if there is anything else I should do to help this! thank you!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Such relapse of symptoms in view, in my view could be either resistance to antibiotic given, persistent allergy or weakness incurred after in infection and antibiotics. I would advice for culture and sensitivity of sputum and change needful antibiotic, also tapper off steroids and add Motelukast to control allergy. Self care of avoiding exposure to cold, known allergens, avoid oily, spicy, sour and cold edibles. Please discuss these things with your doctor ,to get a changed prescription.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
