Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a tia stroke last week according to ER. I got an MRI of the brain. Neurologist called the next day and left a message saying I had a significant Number of small vessel strokes. He said I should control blood sugar, BP, and colesrerol. Not diabetic, taken BP meds for years. Do not take statins because of severe hip pain. My ldl has never been high before but is now. I don t exercise because I have Ortostatic hypotension and fall and the nurse said this could explain elevated ldl. The docs seem to say I will be fine for a while and then die a miserable death. Any comments?
Dear a transient ischemic attack (TIA) is a brief interruption of blood flow to part of the brain that causes temporary stroke-like symptoms.
Dear any cardiac problem or atherosclerosis in carotid artery may cause dislodge of small thrombus which may block blood flow to brain may cause TIA. anemia and hypotension also cause above problems.
Risk factors for TIA are hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, smoking, alcoholism, sedentary lifestyle, obecity etc...
Control above risk factors along with that, regular exercise and antiplatelet therapy may useful. please consult your neurophysician he will examine and treat you accordingly .
Take care.
