Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a mole on my leg which was checked about 6 months ago and was fine. I noticed a lighter white-ish patch on the mole and pulled out three ingrown hairs from the patch. Could the lighter patch just be irritation from the ingrown hairs? I get very worried about melanoma and tend to visit the dermatologist more than necessary.
Suspicious of melanoma. The most important warning sign of melanoma is a new spot on the skin or a spot that is changing in size, shape, or color. Ingrown hairs do not cause lighter patch due to irritation. Advised to consult a dermatologist for proper clinical examination.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
