What Causes Abdominal Bloating After Consuming Salad?
Hello, Doctor. About a week ago, I noticed when I d finished a store-bought salad in a plastic container that part of a tine from the plastic fork was missing. At one point, I thought I might have bitten into something, but the salad had green pepper and other crunchy things in it, so I didn t think twice about it. I have no pain, but since that salad I ve been feeling bloated nearly all the time. Do you think there could be some connection between the bloating and the bit of plastic fork tine (which was slightly less than 1 cm long....I m asking because colon cancer runs in my family, and I m overdue for a colonoscopy (though I ve never had stomach problems before)......
It is understandable to be concerned especially with a family history of colonic cancer but it is unlikely to be related to that diagnosis.
Bloating is a side effect of certain foods particularly certain fruits and vegetables such as broccoli, cabbage, turnips, beans, prunes, brussel sprouts, apricots, apple, kale. If your salad contained any of these products then this could be the cause of your bloating.
You can consider the use of reflux medication to help even if there no other reflux symptoms. These meds often help with bloating.
I hope this helps
