What Causes Abdominal Bloating After Taking A Lantus Shot?
My husband is a type 2 diabetic; 62 years old and just started using injectable Lantus. We had a normal dinner and after injecting himself this evening, he felt extremely bloated and his stomach hurts. He has high blood pressure but takes meds for that, He took his blood pressure and it is 181/89. He says he feels hot and looks sweaty. He had quadruple bypass surgery 8 years ago (no heart attack). He says he has no chest pain or pains going down his arm. He was just able to pass a small bowel movement. He sees a doctor regularly and everything has been good lately.
The most concerning thing to me is that he says he feels hot and he looks sweaty. I'd be concerned that the lantus dose is too high, and that he is hypoglycemic (low blood sugar). I'd check his blood sugar, and if was too low (less than 90), I'd get some sugar in him like orange juice and recheck. If his blood sugar continued to be low, I'd take him to the ER. If his blood sugar comes back up after the orange juice, I'd continue to check it every few hours. If he does have low blood sugar after the lantus, he should stop it and let his prescribing doctor know immediately. It sounds like he needs to have his diabetes medications adjusted.
