What Causes Abdominal Bloating And An Altered Sense Of Smell?

Hello. I am a 76 year old male in reasonably good health but have been experiencing severe stomach bloat and a smell in my nose that is strange and unpleasant. I also get nauseated when this happens. I is not food portions nor food type sensitive. Can you give me any advice as to what may be causing this?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Severe stomach bloating associated with nausea are suggestive of possible stomach issues (gastritis or ulcers) or gallbladder problems. Further, the liver function test together with abdominal ultrasound is recommended to determine the right diagnosis. Until you see your gastroenterologist, I advise taking probiotics to stabilize intestinal flora together with ginger tea for nausea.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini
