What Causes Abdominal Bloating And Pain After Having Food?

Hello, I have recently been suffering immediate bloating, gas build up and pain in my stomach that happens within the first five minutes of my starting to eat. It is not triggered by any particular type of food, in fact, I ve noticed that this happens no matter what I eat, it just is an immediate build of stomach gases that bloats and causes pain due to the gas pushing on my upper abdomen. I do sometimes have some heartburn, but this doesn t seem to be connected

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The bloating may be due to the use of gas producing foods or may be an extension/worsening of your reflux/heartburn.

Gas producing foods include- broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, turnips, beans, prunes, carbonated drinks, cucumbers, peas, onions, green peppers, brussel sprouts, pears, peaches, melons.

These are only some of the foods that can cause excess gas production in some persons. Not all people react to these foods in this way.

You may need to determine if any of these may be responsible.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
