Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My granddaughter who nineteen months old has a bloated stomach. Her doctor order an ultrasound of the belly, but said that is came back negative, but I am still concern. She is also a little dark under her eyes. In November of last year she had an virus, and she lost some weight, and the doctor was concern that she was not growing as much as she should. Then she order another test to see if her thyroid was ok, but these test ca e back ok as well. She looks like the little children that you see on the front cover of a magazine, who don’t have enough food to eat.
The symptoms you are describing can be due to malnutrition. A bloated belly with thin limbs can occur in protein energy malnutrition. It can be corrected with proper diet and supplements.
Also it can be caused by a serious underlying disorder like some blood disorders. I would advise you to get her complete blood work up done.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Nazma. Amman
