What Causes Abdominal Bloating While On Doxycycline?

i finished a 10 day round of doxycycline on Sunday. The wednesday during treatment i started to develop a very uncomfortable bloated feeling in my upper abdominal area. It has been a week, i finished my meds 3 days ago and the bloating is still here. Is this normal? is there any way to lessen the blaoted feeling? (i run collegiate track and running and eating both make it worse, which is causing problems in my training schedule)

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It is due to gastritis. Drugs like doxycycline can cause gastritis. You can take antacids like omeprazole or pantoprazole for symptomatic relief. Avoid spicy foods.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
