What Causes Abdominal Cramps And Greyish Brown Vaginal Discharge Post An Appendectomy?

I had a cyst removed from my ovary and my appendix removed in april. I ve been taking birth control noncyclical for cyst suppression but I m having abdominal cramping and greyish brown discharge. It doesn t smell bad and there s no genital burning but the abdominal pain is like severe menstral cramping. What s going on?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your short history of removal of cyst from ovary and appendectomy, have abdominal cramps, grayish brown vaginal discharge without any burning or itching in private parts.
Since there is vaginal discharge you need the following:
Consult your Gynecologist for internal examiantion to find the cause.
Ultrasonography of abdomen and pelvis to see for th uterus, ovaries and any fluid in Pouch of Douglas to see if there is any infection in uterus, pelvic inflammatory disease and so on.
CT scan may help further to pinpoint the cause.
Once a proper diagnosis has been made it will be easy to get an appropriate management as per the cause found.
May have nothing to do with appendectomy as one of the cause of abdominal cramps has already been removed.
You will also be advised about the birth control intermittent pills, whether to continue or stop and alternative management.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
