What Causes Abdominal Cramps, Chills And Sweating After A Total Hysterectomy?
Hi I had a laproscopic total hysterectomy on Monday, however Friday I had severe abdominal pain / cramps. I started taking oxicodone which was prescribed for me, on Saturday I have had chills and sweats coming on every 4-5 hrs. I am urinating with no problem but have been mostly on fluid as I don t feel like food. What could this be
The possibilities for such a presentation can be: 1) Urinary tract infection 2) Wound infection post laproscopy 3) Peritonitis post laproscopic surgery 4) Community acquired pneumonia
With the history of laparoscopy on Monday it looks like a peritoneal infection or a urinary tract infection. You should do a urine routine and microscopic examination and also a blood routine examination done immediately to check the counts. If the counts are high you should be started on broad spectrum antibiotics at the earliest. Take adequate rest and drink plenty of water. If symptoms worsen consult the ER immediately.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Meera Rajeev, Anesthesiologist
