What Causes Abnormal Vaginal Discharge Post Implantation For Birth Control?
I have been on the implant for nearly 18 months now. I ve been experiencing in the last 6 months brown/black discharge and really sore pains(which I ve had the whole way through anyway). I had really bad periods and that s the reason I went on. Is this normal?
Hormone eluting intrauterine device or IUD is a plastic T-shaped device that is used in the prevention of unwanted pregnancies from unprotected sexual intercourses. This device is inserted into the uterus for long term protection against pregnancy. But like other birth control methods, this device has some side effects too.
It may cause unusual vaginal discharge like anything from brown or black to watery to smelly discharge, severe cramps, heavy or ongoing vaginal bleeding, vaginal sores, belly pain, pain during sex, painful or irregular menstrual periods, vaginal swelling, itching or infection etc. If these side effects persist for long or bother you then you should consult your doctor immediately for medical help.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Zubayer Alam, General And Family Physician
