What Causes Acid Reflux And Bad Taste In The Mouth?
I have had acid reflux and bad taste for two and a half years. Have seen 3 gastro docs and taking Zantac, which controls the burping but still terrible taste in my mouth. Had my gall bladder out a year and a half ago. Any suggestions for helping the taste issue? My tongue is also burning. Saw an ENT who said that would stop when the reflux stops. I also have a small hiatal hernia, endoscope two years ago.
Burning sensation of tongue along with bad taste in mouth is common symptoms if you have acid reflux. It occurs because the acid regurgitates from stomach to throat and mouth which causes inflammation of the mucous membranes leading to burning sensation. Bad taste is due to taste of acid.. You have been advised correctly that the symptoms of burning tongue will gradually get better once the reflux improves. So first of all consult a Gastroenterologist and get evaluated and a proper treatment for reflux should be taken. You can be advised medications like Omeprazole or Pantoprazole along with antacids like Milk of magnesia. Avoiding heavy meals and spicy foods should be done. For burning sensation of tongue you can be advised gargling with numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine. Eat more of probiotics like Yogurt. Suck ice to reduce burning. Avoid spicy foods..
Hope this helps..
Regards.
