Hi,I am Dr. Radhakrishna (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 37 years old. Two days ago I started having severe abdominal pain. The pain has been relentless, and keeps getting worse. I cannot hardly stand or move without sharp pains. The pain is across my abdomen at belly button level. I cannot even touch my abdomen without wanting to scream. I have been having bowel movements just fine. Could it be gall bladder?
HI.The signs and symptoms you have described are suggestive of Peritonitis. You can not move or can not touch abdomen is called a Rebound tenderness. This is a pathognomonic sign of a peritonitis and you need an Urgent Surgical Exploration of the abdomen. Before surgery you can undergo the tests of : Blood for CBC, sugar, liver and kidney functions and electrolytes. and for Typhoid as it can cause Perforation of the small intestine. X-ray of the abdomen in the standing position to see a gas under diaphragm. Ultrasonography to see for fluid in the peritoneal cavity. The most common cause of this can be : Perforated Peptic ulcer, perforation of the small intestine by Tuberculosis , typhoid, Internal herniation, volvulus with dis-integrity of the intestine and so on. Do not take anything orally, VISIT ER and get admitted .
