Hi,I had a lot of trouble getting to sleep the other night, it felt like i kept falling to sleep but straight into nightmares, and would wake up quite shocked and scared, but what felt like hours in the dream in reality was only 5-10mins and it happened numerous times before i went to bed

this is known as idiopathic nightmare. dont worry about it just focus on your work and enjoy the life. avoid sleeping during day time. avoid tension if you have any. avoid stimulant drinks like tea and coffee before going to bed.
you can try meditation also. it will help you too fall asleep. dont take burden on your mind.
in my opinion , first you try this life style modification,
if still not working than you can try medication after consulting a psychiatrist.
generally tablet alprazolam 0.25 mg befor bed will help.
but first you try to modify your life style than consult a doctor for medication
