Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes An Altered Sense Of Smell After A Maxillary Sinus Surgery?
i am now 4weeks post op for maxillary sinus surgery and cauterization of turbinate. I have a smell of rotten met or dried blood in my left nares at all times. when i irrigate my nose, there is a lot of bloody drainage that comes out. and when i gently blow my nose it still bleeds. is this normal after 4weeks?
I had gone through your question I can understand your concern about post operative bleeding.
Normally the surgical wound heals in two weeks and not more then three. There must be some infection or trauma due to fast blowing of nose that is delaying your wound.
As you said there is rotten meat smell which indicates bacterial infection. You must also check for the pus in nasal discharge.
If the bleeding is more in frequency you should visit to your surgeon to get proper evaluation.
Hope the answer to your query. Regards Dr Muzaffer Hussain Parray.
