What Causes An Elevated Heart Rate Of Upto 118 After Exertion?

my dad's heart rate went up to 118(after exertion), and then didn't come down to his normal 86 for over 2 hours.(he was at rest) why? he has COPD, congenstive heart failure, and atrial fib, and is 90 years old- he is very much out of shape. thanks so much. betty

Hey Betty, generally in a normal individual the rate you describe is well under normal range and need for be treated. However for your grand father. I would suggest you to maintain resting in 60s and with exertion in 90s.
You may optimise the rate limiting drug which he is on.
Also sub clinical worsening of congestive failure or Copd may increase the resting and with exertion rate, so make sure he has regained extra fluid
In total just optimisation of the meds he is already on would do the trick
