Hello,

Gaining weight without any reason can be due to thyroid insufficiency (high TSH levels). Dose adjustment will take 3-5 months later on you have to take thyroid medication for life long, with half-yearly or yearly followups.

Diagnosing of Mediterranean anemia at this age group is usually and probably thalassemia minor. Patients of thalassemia minor are usually symptomatic, and they won't require any intervention. Foods you should avoid are
Cabbage
Cauliflower
Broccoli, spinach, strawberries, and peanuts. Foods to the taken are eggs, fish, meat vegetable fruits.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Siddartha
