What Causes Back Pain And Nausea With Umbilical Hernia?

Hello. I am due a umbilical hernia repair and abdominal wall strengthening in approx 8 weeks time. However in the last 3 or so weeks I have noticed that I have backache and a pulling sensation for most of every day and I feel extremely nauseous and dizzy quite a lot every day too. I have a 1 year old child who I have to carry a lot and I m wondering if that is acting as a catalyst to making my hernia(s) worse? Is this normal and just something that I have to be patient with (until my op), or should I be returning to my GP. it is getting more and more painful and uncomfortable daily, and the nausea is sometimes debilitating. Thank you in advance.

Hi,

Noted the history of planned umbilical hernia repair and abdominal wall strengthening in approximately 8 weeks, backache with pulling sensation for the last 3 weeks, nausea and dizziness, has 1 year child that you have to carry on and thinks may be worsening the hernia. It is getting painful and debilitating sometimes nausea is debilitating.

As per the history you have provided, the backache and pulling looks to be due to muscular spasm and may be due to disc prolapse as you had a pregnancy. The pain in the umbilical hernia indicate the need to get operated as early as possible as there can be partial obstruction of the intestines and hence the nausea. Surely to carry a child of 1 year will increase the problem for umbilical hernia as well as for the umbilical hernia.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
