Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Bilateral Pitting Pedal Edema While Traveling By Air?
I had a lovely 10 day vacation in Beijing except for bilateral pitting pedal edema. This happened last year traveling to Japan and France too but this recent trip to Beijing was much worse. I even traveled business class so I could keep my feet elevated. Why is this happening? I m only 53 and in otherwise good health. Could it have something to do with the nocturnal/diurnal change?
Pedal edema is very common after traveling for long and it goes away on its own on taking rest. But other causes related to health can also lead to this. Are you on any medication for being hypertensive or any other illness? I suggest you get your KFT blood test done and see a doctor with the results. A physical check up is advised with all previous medical history. Depending on the results you will be guided appropriately by the doctor.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Manisha Auradkar, General & Family Physician
