Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 34 year old female. I have suspected ulcerative colitis (am waiting for an appointment with a GI specialist). I have tried asacol suppositories, now am on colifoam. Seeing some progress after a week. However, yesterday I had bad diarrhea and noticed (not for the first time) a lot of black flecks in my stool). I went to the doctor last night and she basically said not to worry and to see my GP. Is this likely to be blood from an upper GI bleed? or could this be undigested food? I have also started taking fish oil and a probiotic supplement - could the black flecks be related to this?
HI Well come to HCM Thank for asking Your query being appreciated, what ever seen in stool that can not be taken for anything unless it is being correlated with the clinical condition, else it is not the bleeding, the consistency, color of stool are depends upon the diet taken so it could be diet related appearance and no need to worry about this, still just to rule out the doubt stool can be sent for lab examination, microscopic and routine hope this information helps.
