What Causes Black Liquid Vomiting While Having The History Of Ulcer?
Hi, my husbnd was not feeling well and he tried to throw up and he liquid was black. He takes a lot of medications and has had an ulcer in the past year. He last saw his gastroenterologist a couple weeks ago and he thought everything is okay. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks
Hello, I've read your query and i understand your concern for your husband.
According to the given description, the term coffee ground vomitus describes vomit that looks like coffee grounds( black or dark brown in some cases). This is a result of coagulated blood in the vomit. Vomiting blood is also known as hematemesis or coffee ground emesis.
The color of the vomited blood will vary depending on how long the blood was in your gastrointestinal system. If there is a delay in vomiting, the blood will appear dark red, brown, or black. Clotted blood within the vomit will make it appear like coffee grounds.
This is a serious condition that requires immediate medical attention. Be sure to note the time and amount you vomited, and anything that might have caused the vomiting. If possible, you should take a sample of the vomit to your doctor for further testing.
Please schedule an appointment of your husband with your gastroenterologist to further investigate and treat the condition.
Take Care
