Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi After I had an MRI last week I had a bowel movement and there were black spots throughout the entire stool. They were about the size of agrain of rice, slhough they were perfectly round. They were evenly spaced throughout the stool and not in clumps. I had eaten absolutely nohing that looked like that as I had been on mushy foods. The stool was otherwise very normal -- just looked like it was full of black polka dots
Actually, the black spots you observed in your stool are not related to the MRI you underwent. Most probably they are due to:
- Any fruits containing black seeds or basil seeds you had in food
- Upper gastrointestinal bleeding like in gastric or duodenal ulcer can cause black spots in stool
- Certain medications and iron supplements
- Foods like beetroot
- Esophageal varicella bleeding
- Stomach cancer
You need to consult a doctor only if you have symptoms like abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, blood vomiting, or weight loss. If it was only a single episode without any above symptoms, you need not worry.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
