What is Upper gastrointestinal bleeding?

It is bleeding in the esophagus, stomach or duodenum due to diseases like ulcers and esophageal varices. Blood is seen either in vomit or black coloured in the stools (melena). Symptoms of blood loss may be seen if there is profuse bleeding.
