Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am trying to determine where I am on the ASIA Standard. My MRI findings are abnormal t2/STIR signal of the conus medullaris located at T12. This abnormal signal extends within the conus extends from the level of the lower T11 vertebral body to T12/L1. I have bladder and bowel issues along with a right leg that I cannot feel from just below the knee down. Where would you rate me on the ASIA Standard? Also, what about the pinprick test to the rectum area, what would that show with my injury.
Urinary retention and atonic anal sphincter cause overflow urinary incontinence and fecal incontinence; tend to present early in course of disease. Numbness tends to be more localized to perianal area, symmetrical and bilateral, sensory dissociation occurs.
Pin prick in perianal area affected(symmetrical) in conus compression than compare to cauda equina in which saddle anesthesia may present but asymmetrical. So they tested for it. You may have conus so it is affected symmetrically.
Please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.
