What Causes Bleeding, Dizziness And Headache After Taking Emergency Contraceptive Pills?

I recently had sex and the condom broke, about an hour later I took emergency contraception. A week later I started bleeding, kind of like a period but a little less blood but I have been getting symptoms like darker areolas, headaches, dizziness, very tired, mood swings and my period is a few days late. Is it possible I could be pregnant even if I bled the week after?

Hi,

Cannot say in your particular case. but some general information would be that the emergency contraception works by being very high levels of hormones. The areola darkening and other hormonal symptoms are expected. The bleeding is also because your cycle was just reset. So, it's quite likely THAT was this month's period and it will be about 28 days til the next one.You could be pregnant; it's pretty unlikely. The tests are quite good at 3 weeks after intercourse.
