Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Bleeding With Mucus During Bowel Movements?
I was thrown into menopause at age 46 when I lost a blood clot in my leg. I tend to get a period or two every 9 months now. I recently have had two, the first one was light the second one was very heavy. Now when I have a bowel movement I have some bleeding. The bleeding does not appear to be from the rectum, but I have had a lot of mucus in my bowel movements. Should I be concerned or is this normal?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
If bleeding is not from the rectum then it may be from vagina. Need to be evaluated. PID, polyps or DUB may be the cause of bleeding.
Mucous in the stools may be due to irritable bowel problems or infections or malabsorption syndromes, etcetera.
Until examination is done, it is difficult to say what it is. Avoid spicy food, alcohol, smoking and caffeinated drinks.
Use tablet pantoprazole before breakfast for one week. If symptoms do not improve, please consult your doctor who will examine and treat you accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu
