What Causes Blood Clots From Vagina During Premenopause ?

I am a 54 year old woman. I am pre-menopause per blood work last year. I went for 7 months without a period...and 3 weeks ago I had one -- and it has been continuous for those three weeks. I do have some clots that come out. Should I see my gynecologist...or is this normal?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
I understand your concern.
The stopping of regular menstrual cycle may be a sudden or a gradual process, It is normal to have few months of break in menses fillowed by profuse bleeding with or without clots or scanty bleeding. This is due to hormonal changes in premenopausal phase.
About doctor's advise-
You should visit your doctor if the bleeding is excessive or prolonged bleeding.
A periodic health check up is advised during premenopause.
Thanks.
