What Causes Breasts Soreness And Abdominal Bloating After Having Periods?
Hi, I ve been on Nuvaring for a few months now, and i had just finished my period on a Thursday and had put a new Nuvaring in that same day. I had sex the day after. I started spotting a couple days later, and it started feeling uncomfortable so i took the nuvaring out. Then about a week later i started my period again. Ever since then, my breasts have been extremely sore and i ve been feeling bloated. Can i possibly be pregnant?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Jay Patel's Response
Hi,
There is a phenomenon called withdrawal bleeding for females on contraception pills or Nuvaring like insertion contraceptives'. The sudden removal of the ring from your body seems to be resulted in that phenomenon leading to second bleeding after the removal of the ring. Some time this phenomenon remains active for 2 - 3 weeks (sudden abrupt bleeding) till the body's built in system kicks in and take the control of the menstrual cycle.
The tenderness of breast usually related to the same phenomenon from progesterone released by the device. Your body will renormalize the cycle with in 1-2 months. (Be careful to use protective measure like condoms during that transition and time after if you do not want to be pregnant). Most likely you are not pregnant at this time. But for confirmation and peace of mind, TRY taking pregnancy test available in pharmacy. If Breast tenderness continues beyond a week consult you primary care physician or gynecologist.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Jay Patel, General & Family Physician
