What Causes Breathlessness While Walking After An Open Heart Surgery?

I am having a hard time breathing when I walk about 20 steps. I feel like I have a lump in my stomach. I had open heart surgery on 4-9-2014 from a mitral valve replacement. Since I have been home and I do go out shopping in the food store I find I have to rely on the electric motor chairs they have in order for me to do grocery shopping. It is very difficult walking without getting out of breath.

Thanks for your question on HCM.
I can understand your problem and situation.
Since you are cardiac patient and operated for mitral valve,in my opinion, your current symptoms are also suggestive of cardiac disease.
So better to consult cardiologist and get done
1. ECG
2. 2d echo
To rule out cardiac cause especially valvular leak or improper closing.
It is quite possible to develop valvular leak or poor closing of valve, 6-7 months after valve surgery.
So we need to rule out this first.
So consult cardiologist and discuss all these.
