Hello, and I hope I can help you today.
Your first period after being pregnant (even if it ended in
miscarriage or
abortion) is commonly irregular. You may bleed more or less than previously, and it may last longer than in previous times. Increased cramping is also normal in the first few months. Cramping in your rectum can be
referred pain from the back of your uterus.
However, if you are having unprotected sex and not using
contraception, you are also at risk for a new
pregnancy, and you should perform a pregnancy test in that case to make sure it is not missed.
If you are not pregnant and continue to have irregular cycles, after 3 months you may benefit from a hormonal evaluation and discussion of contraception with your healthcare provider.
I hope I was able to adequately answer your question today and that this information was helpful.
Best wishes,
Dr. Brown
