What Causes Burning And Tingling Sensation Around The Lips?

The skin around my lips feel like they are burning or tingling as if I have had a slight chemical burn. I have not had a sunburn, nor have I come in contact with anything new or eaten anything new. I have lost weight recently but my PA is not overly concerned. I am 65 years old, 5ft. 2in. and wt. 93 lbs. My fingernails are also splitting. My hair seems unaffected by anything. I have had regular blood work done within the last 4 months and all were within normal range. the only medication I am taking is Topamax 100mg twice a day to help my migraines. Any thought on the matter about the sensation around my lips? It has been going on for about 3 weeks now. Thank you for your time. Bridget

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms seem to be related to contact dermatitis. I suggest to use antihistamines such as Cetirizine 10 mg daily. I also suggest using Dexamethasone cream for local application. If the symptoms continue, I suggest to do allergic tests for further evaluation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
