Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 31 yr old female. I have ptsd, I take 100mg of Zoloft every day. I am a cigarette smoker. I am 5 4 & weigh 154lbs. I have not had a period in over a year. I am not on birth control. I have had a tubal ligation. That was 7 yrs ago. Now that I have that info up there I will ask my question. When I yawn my stomach burns real bad. What could cause this?
It sounds like you might have some mild dyspepsia, or acid reflux. This is very common, and is more common in people with:
Obesity Bulging of top of stomach up into the diaphragm (hiatal hernia) Pregnancy Smoking Dry mouth Asthma Diabetes Delayed stomach emptying Connective tissue disorders, such as scleroderma
However acid reflux is also common in people without any of these risk factors. My best advice to you would be to stop smoking and try an antacid like tums when you feel the burning. If tums doesn't work, you could try Famotidine or Ranitidine (can pick it up over-the-counter at your local pharmacy).
