What Causes Burning Sensation In Chest While Suffering From Hiatal Hernia?

I have a small hietal hernia. I have been tested for all the obvious culprits for what might be causing my reflux which usually happens after midnight. Used to be at 3 am now it is at 1 am 3 am 5 am. I tried going off different foods. I am now taking prilosec but still have the late night chest burning symptoms. My dr. thinks this is all due to the hietal hernia. Is it possible it could be anything else? What other drug could I try to eliminate the symptoms. I hate taking these drugs because I know they are bad for you but I am getting desperate.

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Burning sensation in chest not getting relieved by any medication is most probably due to hiatus hernia.
The definitive treatment for hiatus hernia is surgical correction of the defect.
In the meanwhile, you will need to take medication to control the reflux and to avoid the food which is causing the symptoms.
Fatty and spicy foods tend to increase regurgitation and thus burning sensation.

Thanks and take care
