What Causes Chemical Like Smell In Nose?

For 4 months now I have been smelling what I thought was acrylic polymer, I thought it was the canvas painting I had been doing - I got a huge bacterial infection, both chest and sinus and was put on antiobiotics. Problem is I can now smell this smell everywhere, and no one else can, also interesting is when I put my head on the pillow at night sleeping on my right side it is really bad. Do I have a brain tumor - I'm 59, inherited bad cholesterol, although that is finally now being tamed with Niacin, but triglycerides are still too high even tho I eat 5 servings of organic fruit/vedge a day -

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your complain the symptoms of chemical smell in nose along with discomfort in sleeping on the right side seems to be most probably be due to prevailing sinus infection that has no completely resolved and as the sinuses drains through the nose, it seems to be the cause..

I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evvaluated and he can do a thorough clinical evaluation and also advise you MRI or PNS View x ray of sinuses and confirm the cause..

In case if sinusitis is confirmed you will have to take another course of antibiotics like Augmentin, anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen, decongestants like Phenylephrine, steam inhalations, saline nasal irrigations, decongestant nasal sprays containing Xylometazoline and steroid nasal sprays..
As of now you can do steam inhalations with a few drops of eucalyptus oil in boiling water for refreshing your breath..
