What Causes Chest And Stomach Pain When Suffering From Hiatal Hernia?
I have a hiatal hernia and had a wreck was hit in the back and since then my hernia has been hurting so bad I can not get any relief I hurt from my neck down to my legs , could the hernia be torn worse I am haveing sharp pains in my chest and stomach.
Hello, 1) Hiatus hernia develop due to weakening of opening of diaphragm from which esophagus enters into abdomen. Junction of esophagus-stomach lie just below to this opening. When there is weakening of this opening, this junction can be rolled or moved up through this opening into chest and develop hiatus hernia. 2) Symptoms of hiatus hernia are due to upwards placed stomach and weakening of esophago-stomach junction, and due to this acid (produced in stomach) can go up into esophagus and develop irritation there which causes nausea, vomiting, burning type chest pain. 3) If this acid can move up to neck then also develop pain in neck portion of esophagus due to irritation. 4) treatment portion for hiatus hernia consist two part; medical treatment and surgical treatment 5) Medical treatment is initiated when irritation in esophagus due to stomach acid is confirmed on upper GI endoscopy. If further evaluation confirms presence of hiatus hernia (moderate-to-severe) or hiatus hernia which interfere daily activity then surgery is also indicated (after initiating medical treatment for irritation)
